The Dragon Wagon 5 Day Adventure Tour
DAY 1
The 5-Day Tour begins as our 3-Day Tour, in Cardiff the Capital City of Wales; we collect you from outside Cardiff Castle. You then travel up into the Brecon Beacons National Park.
Here you will go Gorge Walking, leaping from rock to rock in the crystal clear mountain stream, climbing pounding waterfalls and feeling the exhilaration of the icy cold water on your face as you swim through pools and slide down chutes in this natural water park. Brecon town, home to the Army in Wales, with its Museums and Cathedral Brecon is a must and not forgetting every year in July they have the ‘The Brecon Jazz Festival’.
Your first evening and the accommodation, The Stonecroft Inn, is an independent Hostel in Llanwrtyd Wells the smallest town in Wales. Llanwrtyd is the home of the World Bog Snorkeling Championships, the Man V Horse race and many other bizarre and exciting activities! The Hostel has an excellent menu and is in the good beer guide.
DAY 2
sees us traveling up through the dark heart of Wales to the Welsh White Water Centre where you can take part in a White Water Rafting trip down the river Tryweryn. This activity must be pre booked* and is not included in the cost of the tour. Please contact the office for further details and feel free to check out the Tryweryn website.
Then it is on to historic town of Caernarfon, staying in Totters Hostel which is built within the walls of this 13th Century Fortified Town and is reputed to be haunted. Caernarfon is a world heritage site and the castle built by Edward the 1st in 1283, was an English Garrison designed to quell the Welsh Princes and their rebellions. Caernarfon is a Welsh Speaking town and the locals are very friendly people. There are a number of great restaurants and pub grub is always popular, check out the Black Buoy. *Please contact the office for further details
DAY 3
sees us in the formidable mountains of the Snowdonia National Park where we climb to the summit of Mt Snowdon the highest Mountain in Britain outside of Scotland.
There are several major routes to the Summit, not forgetting the Snowdon Mountain Railway, but our climb takes us up the Watkin Path (5-7 hour round trip), famously used by the Carry On team as the Khyber Pass in the film “Carry On Up The Khyber”. Bring your walking shoes and a good raincoat, as the weather in the mountains can never be guaranteed. It’s then on to the Braich Goch Hostel. The Braich in Corris is very friendly does great food and has a pub and pool table on the premises.
DAY 4
and we now travel down the Wild West coast to the rugged and awe inspiring scenery of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Here you will take part in “Coasteering”, THE West Wales Adventure sport. Using the breathtaking sea cliffs and natural rock caves and bays, you climb, swim, jump and traverse your way around the fantastic coastline, the higher you jump the louder the scream.
Our last night finds us in Fishguard, staying at Hamilton Backpacker Lodge, it’s right in the town centre where there is always something going on and you will never be short of entertainment, there are some excellent restaurants and plenty pf pub grub to be had too. The old lower town of Fishguard was used in the filming of “Under Milk Wood” as the setting for Dylan Thomas’ fantastical fishing village of “Llareggub”, or Buggerall backwards.
DAY 5
Day 5 and you are on your way back to Cardiff calling into Carreg Cennen Castle en route, which is a 14th Century hilltop fort within the scenic beauty of the Brecon Beacons National Park.
